I saw these fabulous little MDF shrines at the NEC Trade Show a few weeks ago, and was inspired to not only order some for the shop, but to also buy one myself. You can see John’s (and Heather’s) shrines here, here, and here!
I assembled the shrine and coated with black gesso before adding a couple of coats of my favourite Dylusions acrylic paints. Once dry I added fabric and faux metal trims, liquid pearles, gems, Stickles, tiny skull beads, gilding wax….all the bling I could find to create my Mexican Day of the Dead inspired shrine.
The centrepiece is a chipboard hand from an Art Parts set, painted, waxed and glittered before being glued in place.
The stand is created from a large wooden spool topped with a tiny spool, gessoed, painted and blinged up like the shrine.
The back has a geometric mandala stamp from Visible Image, coloured with Promarkers and finished with a gem in the centre.
I love how this turned out – the vibrant colours and all the textures make it really tactile and eye catching!!
