I am notoriously hopeless at starting the year intending to follow a series of art journal prompts, only to stumble and give up part way through the year. Trying to keep up with weekly prompts is just too much, and once you start to slip behind, it just snowballs and before you know it – there’s just too much round between you and the rest of the group. So, I was really pleased to hear that Nina Ribena was going to do monthly prompts rather than her usual weekly ones this year. This seems much more achievable for me….so here is my January page based on the prompt ‘Words’.
I used mixed media paper for my base and added some acrylic inks in sepia and indigo, blending out with a spritz of water. I left this to dry naturally and once dry added some torn scrapbooking paper which has inspirational words on it. I felt that the background needed another layer of pattern so used a stencil and black Distress Ink to add the circle dot design. I used a white gel pen to define some of the dots over the inked areas. My focal image is cut from a magazine and glued in place. I used a 0.3 black fineliner to add a thin black line around her, allowing the image to stand out better. Finally I used a couple of Tim Holtz word stickers and outlined with the white gel pen.
I am really thrilled with this page and will be putting it in an album (as soon as I have bought one!!) Below are the links to Nina’s YouTube and Facebook group – please check them out if you have chance!
