I was fascinated to learn about the long history of pressed metalware in the Rhode Island area and that sparked the idea to create something in the style of traditional American folk art. When I was sent my selection of Frank Morrow Company decorative metal items from Joggles, this chicken really caught my eye and I decided to turn a plain pine chopping board into a fun piece of kitchen decor.
The board is painted with acrylic paints which I then sanded back around the edges to create a more aged look. A wipe over with some brown furniture wax added to the vintage feel. The chicken is coloured with Ranger Alcohol Inks – I love the easy application and vibrant tones. I sealed these with a coat of varnish before attaching the chicken to the board with silicone glue. An piece of natural ribbon from my ‘scrap bag’ became the hanging loop.
