Day 16 of 31 DOH – It’s Fright Night!

Welcome back to the amazing 31 Days of Halloween blog hop. The blog roll is in the sidebar to the left. If you are following the roll then you will have arrived here from Lisa F and your next stop is Fiona. All the rules can be found on Terra’s Blog at the top of the list. Be sure to stop by each day as there are prizes to be won by commenting and a sneaky scavenger image to find hidden in the blogs.

Today I have a painted wood block for you which is decorated with some creepy cool MDF pieces from Calico Craft Parts and my favourite DecoArt Media paints.

I began by coating the wood block and all the MDF pieces with some gesso and allowed them to dry. Then I painted the wood block with a layer of gorgeous DecoArt Media Green Gold acrylic. While that was drying I painted the pipework with DecoArt Dazzling Metallics in Splendid Gold, the ‘Fright Night’ in DecoArt Media Quinacridone Red, and gave the skull a generous layer of DecoArt Media Crackle Paste.

Now that the wood block was dry, I used my Smeared Ink rubber Quoth The Raven text stamp and stamped all around the sides with Black Archival Ink. I used an IndigoBlu Bubble stamp and Versamark to cover the front, then embossed with WOW Powders Clear Matt Dull embossing powder. I now added some washes to the pipework to create an aged brass effect (Timeworn Techniques).

I coated the wood block with DecoArt Carbon Black Antiquing Cream, and rubbed it back once dry to reveal the bubble design. Once the skull had crackled I used DecoArt Media English Red Oxide Antiquing Cream to highlight the cracks. I spritzed some DecoArt Media Mister in Red onto the Fright Night words as the colour was a little flat, and allowed everything to dry completely before assembling with all purpose adhesive.
