I’ve always been in awe of the beautiful projects by the Finnabair team. So when they launched the Spread Your Wings Academy, sharing some secrets and tips, I decided to try my hand at creating something inspired by their techniques.
I used Rebecca’s suggested starting point of adding paper and modelling paste to the blank canvas. I used some Kaisercraft paper with the doily motif and sentiment, and added some strips of domino print washi tape. Then I took a ‘burlap’ mask and applied DecoArt Media white modelling paste through it.
Once dry I used gesso to blend the paper edge into the canvas and added washes of Blue-Green, Quin Gold, and Black DecoArt paints. I used black modelling paste through the number stencil, and sprayed some black Media Mister paint in places. I added areas of Rock Candy Distress Crackle paint, adding a wash of Payne’s grey to bring out the crackle detail. I used a gold mica spray to add shimmer to other areas.
The embellishments are die cuts, wooden shapes, resin flowers and a cameo. I added paint and Antiquing Cream to some, gilding wax to add highlights. I took a Visible Image script stamp and randomly stamped on the canvas and embellishments using black Archival Ink. I finished with some black micro beads and glass bubbles.
I think I managed to keep my own style whilst bringing in elements of the Finnabair style. I look forward to the next Academy inspiration post.
