Sometimes you need a kick up the backside to try something new, instead of just thinking about it.
Thankfully the minions in the dungeon have thoughtfully chosen ‘What’s New Pussycat?’ as the theme for their January challenge, and so I was compelled to finally try a technique that I had been putting off for months.
I have seen the wonderful Black Dragon stamping in clay for many of her creepy projects. I have used this technique for my altered box.
I rolled some air drying clay out to make a thin sheet, then used one of the stamps from Smeared Ink’s Morte set to make an imprint. I also rolled some thin sausages of clay to make a twisted ‘frame’. Once these had all dried I glued them to the lid of my box and added some more bits of clay to fill in any gaps….then let it all dry again.
Next stage was to cover the whole box – wood and clay – with Payne’s Grey acrylic paint…..and let it dry…
Then I took some Pebeo gold gilding wax and lightly rubbed it over the clay to bring out the design. I added some more around the edges and corners of the box, then buffed it with a cloth to fix and bring up the shine.
The final stage was one of the stamps from Visible Image’s Revolution set, stamped with Versamark ink and embossed with gold embossing powder in the centre of each side.
As a finishing touch I added a brass handle to the lid to complement the decoration.
