Jigsaw Jigsaw

No, you’re not seeing double – this is a jigsaw of Jigsaw! The terribly twisted people at Haunted Design House have inspired me with their ‘Let’s Play A Game’ theme and I spent the evening creating my macabre offering for the challenge. I have to shout out a HUGE thank you to the Manical Mother of Mayhem Monique for allowing me to use her artwork which you can find here (fantastic work, I am so grateful). Anyway, here is my project:

jigsaw frame

I used Monique’s linework and traced it onto a blank jigsaw that I have had waiting patiently in a drawer. I used Indian Ink to outline,  then coloured the image with the following Spectrum Noir pens:

IG1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, CR8, 11, DR3, Blender

I then used some striped washi tape around the edge to create a border.

jigsaw

I painted a wooden frame with red acrylic paint. When it was dry I smeared a Versamark inkpad around the edges and sprinkled Cosmic Shimmer Lava Black UTEE over it, then heated with my heatgun. The UTEE has a red/black iridescence that (in this instance) looks like charred, blistered, blood spatters!

I then rubbed a tiny amount of black acrylic paint around the moulding at the top and around the outer edges to age the frame a bit. I used Timber Brown Staz-On to stamp randomly with a Paper Artsy numbers background stamp.

I used Cosmic Shimmer Lapis Black UTEE to emboss over a laser cut wooden key. This has a green/black iridescence. I love the texture that these embossing crystals give, slightly pitted like weathered metal.

key

I glued the key to the top of the frame and then glued some grungeboard letters spelling ‘your move’ to the frame. I thought about painting the letters, but I like the natural grey colour which toned well with the drawing.

I am also entering this into Left of Centre’s ‘Anything Goes’ month long anniversary challenge and WOW! Powders – Embossing on Wood challenge.
