I wanted to try something different with my Spectrum Noir pens for this card, so I stamped my Michael Powell lighthouse scene onto self-adhesive canvas. I used black Memento ink as I’ve found it gives a nice crisp image even on fabric. I used the following pens to colour the image:
BG1, BG2, BGR1, BT1, BT2, BT4, BT6, Bt9, TN3, TN4, GB4, GB6, DG1, CR7, CR9
I kept the colouring quite simple and sketchy as I didn’t want to wet the canvas too much which would cause the inks to bleed. I am really pleased with the effect though as the texture of the canvas adds a lot of interest.
I frayed the edges of the canvas slightly before adhering it to some black card. I then embossed some cream card with my Embossalicious ‘Happy Birthday’ embossing folder and cut two small rectangles, also mounting them onto black card. The card blank is covered with a fantastic leather feel brown paper. I chose some fun stripy paper from Cosmo Cricket to form a horizontal stripe across the centre of my card. I edged this with some black scalloped trim.
I stamped a sentiment onto an off cut of cream card and taped it onto a tag cut from a scrap of coordinating paper. I used some cotton twine to tie a bow through the eyelet. Finally I attached four tiny yellow buttons with glue dots, and clipped a metal bulldog clip to the top of the canvas piece.
I think that this card shows how masculine cards can still be fun and colourful.
I am entering this into Spectrum Noir’s ‘Masculine’ challenge.
